What a thrill it was to accept the Honorary Service Award along with the young people that have given of their time and talents to the Straight Up Program! (read more here) It has been my great pleasure to work with so many teens and young adults who are willing to stand up for something they believe in and take action to improve their community.

Here are just some of the activities that Straight Up volunteers have done in Ventura County:

  • Video Production to increase awareness and understanding of the issues and potential solutions to reduce underage and binge drinking. You can see some of the videos youth have been involved with on the Straight Up YouTube Channel.
  • Store Assessments to help improve policies to reduce youth access to alcohol
  • Outreach to other young people through interactive workshops and performances
  • Presentations to parents, community organizations, city councils
  • Contributions to ongoing community discussion of the issues through the Straight Up blog
  • Reality Parties for Parents to expose the culture of teen drinking parties and promote change. Find out more here.
