#smartstart2school

Recently, a group of middle and high school students from Santa Paula and Fillmore gathered to talk about the new school year and to brainstorm about how to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Together, they thought of the new campaign #smartstart2school — a way to send out tips and info for fellow students to start their school year off healthy and informed.

Isaac shares this tip for getting a ?#?smartstart2school?.

Make it a great day or not -- the choice is yours!

“My teacher always said this to me,” he says. “It’s up to me to decide to have a great day!”

Lily decided that encouraging communication is key to addressing important issues.

You can't hide from addiction

“Talking about drinking, drugs and addiction is important,” Lily says. “Parents and kids can’t pretend it doesn’t exist, because it’s real.” Wise words — keep those lines of communication open and check in often with your friends, family and other community members!

Another student gives encouragement to students beginning their school year — and how they can have a fresh start. “You can’t change the past,” he says. “But you can change the now — and affect the future.”
