4th of July weekend made safer through checkpoints

The VC Star reports: A campaign involving 14 local law enforcement agencies increased patrols and set up drunken-driving checkpoints during the Fourth of July weekend, officials said. Fifty-three people had been arrested on DUI charges since Wednesday, authorities said.

Funding for the campaign was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
